Breakthrough Technology Enables New Approach to Cell Signaling

BOSTON, Mass. – October 29, 2008 – Plectix BioSystems, Inc. today announced its launch plans for Cellucidate, a new computational environment focused on cell signaling research. Founded to create breakthrough solutions for cell biology, Plectix’s technology provides researchers the means to develop an enhanced understanding of complex biological systems.

The Cellucidate collaborative workspace leverages an intuitive visual language for describing protein interactions coupled with advanced computational techniques to enable researchers to discover, model and analyze signaling pathways and run virtual experiments. With this entirely web-based platform, biologists can also publish their work and access a repository of evolving data, knowledge and models to facilitate collaboration and build directly on prior research.

“We believe the time has come to change the way we think about cell signaling,” said Paul Edwards, Plectix CEO. “The dynamic webs of protein interactions involved in these processes tend to overwhelm traditional static or statistical techniques. However with the approaches developed by Plectix and its world-class team of researchers, we are now able to capture and deal with data at a level of detail that can deliver real causal understanding.”

“New empirical knowledge about protein interactions and transformations is emerging all the time,” commented Gordon Webster, Vice-President (Biology) at Plectix. “By having this technology available in a web-based platform, we believe that researchers will be able to quickly and easily identify new knowledge, assess its impact on prior work and incorporate it - or not - into their own world view.”

Cellucidate will be entering private beta at the beginning of November followed by a public beta launch in early December. Researchers who are interested in participating in the launch can pre-register at www.cellucidate.com.
